NitroEurope Project

Le projet Européen NitroEurope vise à quantifier les échanges de gaz à effet de serre (GES) entre les écosystèmes terrestres euroépeens et l'atmosphère. Parmi les GES étudiés, il y a bien sûr le dioxyde de carbone (CO2), mais aussi le méthane (CH4) et l'oxyde nitreux (N2O), qui est émis par les écosystèmes riches en azote et dans des sols humides. Le projet NitroEurope se propose par ailleurs d'étudier l'interaction entre échanges de GES et cycle de l'azote. En effet, les flux d'azote (apports, exports, dépôts secs, dépôts humides, lessivages, volatilisation, pertes d'azote gazeux (N2),...) sont liés aux flux de GES, du fait de son rôle dans le foncitonnement biochimique du sol. Ainsi, l'azote a un rôle potentiel sur le stockage du carbone (voir Amman et al. 2009), mais aussi un rôle direct sur les émissions de N2O ou indirect sur les émissiosn de CH4.

Dans ce projet l'équipe Biosphère-atmosphère de l'unité Environnement et Grandes Cultures est impliquée dans la Composante 1, notamment avec le site expérimental de Grignon sur lequel les flux de CO2 et de toutes les formes réduites de l'azote sont suivies en continu depuis 2006: N2O, oxydes d'azote (NOx), ammoniac (NH3), acide nitrique gazeux (HNO3), aérosols (NH4+ et NO3-), dépôts humides (NH4+ et NO3-), lessivage, apports et exports d'azote. Ce site était auparavant un site CarboEurope et le suivi continu des flux de CO2 et d"ozone (O3) y est assuré depuis 2004.

L'équipe est également impliquée dans la Composante 4 (animée par Pierre Cellier), qui s'intéresse aux échanges d'azote à l'échelle du paysage.
